     Bartley C. Keith was recognized to have artistic talent by the age of 9 when he drew Jesus Feeding The 5,000 and several live portrait drawings of church members. At 17 he became serious about Art, began studying Art History, and graduated High School with a 2-year degree in Commercial Art. He has had no formal training since then. He has a great love for most Art from the Renaissance to the Present, a great love for 20th Century Art and Surrealism, most of all.

       The true function of Art is as Magic actions expressed in Aesthetically-Designed, Mind-Opening, Intuitive Awakenings, and as a sometimes Humorous & Life-Enriching Spiritual-Practice conjured up by the artist and explored by the viewer with different Meanings to everyone usually with a Positive Flavor or Purpose, or harmless and not immediately understood on first-viewings sometimes, but as a positive Spark of Interest and enjoyment for many years to come. The history, rituals, and purposes of these expressed in Artistic creations began with the Alchemy and Invention of Art by shamans, literally about 100,000 years ago, -shown by Cave Paintings, Carvings and Figurines invented by Artistic Shamans as Spiritual Practices through Art - It is now in our genes. At other times, just for Beautiful Mysteries and Eye-Candy for years to come. I am a Surrealist, Magic Realist, and Pop Surrealist and these are my purposes. Enjoy…

       The difference between “Fantasy Art” and “Surrealist, Pop Surrealist, or Magic Realist Art is that… “Fantasy Art” seeks to show conscious Falsehoods in Art, while Surrealist Art is about Seeking Truths or bringing about Conscious Awarenesses of Hidden Truths through individual & collective psyches toward Intellectual and Spiritual Growth or just for Mind-Opening Viewing Pleasures. These are the purposes and my own joy in creating Surrealist Artworks.

       B.C. Keith works in Drawings in Pen & Ink, Colored Pencil, and Ebony Pencil along with Paintings in Acrylics, Oils, and Mixed-Media as well as being a sometimes Writer as can be seen here in this site –for better or worse. A commissioned Realist artist for over 20 years, he has also sold originals and Limited Edition Prints of Realist Ink Drawings into over 500 homes in Ohio with many repeat-buyers. He has now turned definitely to doing his first Love in Art to doing Surrealist Art and other things in the Artist’s Minds-Eye of which, only he can do.

in mind... -opening the

subconscious mind and

gettng us in touch with

it. We carry the fact of

our subconscious re-

ality with us always. It

can be seen through and

beyond our conscious

thoughts... -like the Gap

Between the two Walls

of Trees above, symboli-

zing our conscious

thoughts in the fore-

ground.

This is how the Magic

Realism of Rene' Magritte

works. In Magic Realism,

we are confronted with

new & unexpected juxta-

positions of contrasting

thoughts. Then we uncon-

sciously try to fill in the

blanks of this new contrast

using our creative & sub-

conscious minds. It is the

overlooked gaps between

our conscious thoughts

which are now opened

and awakened.
